Md. Zakir Hossain is an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-motivated person with around 9 years of experience in national and international organizations in disaster risk management, humanitarian response, RMG, market system development and health sector. Currently, he is working as Deputy Manager- DRR & Response at BRAC under Disaster Risk Management Programme, where he plays a pivotal role in disaster preparedness and emergency response. He is an active member of BRAC’s central Emergency Response Team. Throughout his career Zakir has actively contributed to multiple humanitarian interventions including all devasted flash flood, cyclone and fire in 2021 to 2024. Prior to joining this position, he served BRAC’s Health Nutrition and Population Programme on communicable and non-communicable disease, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development under BRAC UNIVERSITY on RMG and WorldFish on Market System Development. Zakir has collaborated with different stakeholders in disaster management including MoDMR, DDM, FSCD, LGIs etc. He has participated in different national level training & workshops on disaster management. He facilitated training to DM Committee from ward to district level. His special interest includes emergency response and preparedness, Capacity Building, Mainstreaming DRR, Flood Recovery Management etc. Additionally, he has strong experience in MEAL, report writing and documentation. He has pursued his honors and master’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from Chittagong University. He has also completed a professional certificate course on GIS & RS application from Jahangirnagar University. He has a strong commitment to humanitarian work, ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and willingness to travel as needed.
